A payment or financial integration should be designed around what happens when things do not go perfectly. Define a unique transaction reference strategy, duplicate-payment protection, retry behavior, webhook verification, reconciliation logic and who can change transaction status. Keep an audit trail for sensitive changes. Design clear states for pending, successful, failed, reversed and manually reviewed transactions. Separate customer-facing messages from internal diagnostic detail. These controls make the integration easier to operate, investigate and support after launch.
